How to use trains and buses:
1. Planning the trip: You can get trip information at stops (actual timetables, at stops with shelters you also find a network map), in timetable booklets or by phone or internet (automatic trip planning), see page Information below.
2. You get your ticket at railway stations, service centers, certain shops, at main stops (vending machines) or in U-Bahn-car and trams (vending machines) and buses (driver). Actual fare information is available at all stops. For more details about the fare system and tickets see page Tickets.
3. At the stop: Find out the right platform if you know the number of the line you want to take and the destination of the line. Tickets have to be stamped at the start of the trip.
4. On the trip: The next stop shall be indicated in the car through calls or displays (not yet in every car). In buses you have to push the stop-button in time before your destination. The door opens if you push the button (in railway trains push the lever).
You may change trains and buses on your trip freely without paying or stamping again. In the case of single or 4-trip-tickets changing is only permitted in the direction of your destination and within a certain time limit. Day Tickets can be used as often as you want within the regional boundaries of the chosen fare stage.
